FxLayer for AI agents: an MCP server and open data

Add FxLayer to your assistant

One address works everywhere: https://fxlayerhq.com/mcp. No authentication to set up.

Claude

On claude.ai or in Claude Desktop, open Settings › Connectors, choose Add custom connector, name it FxLayer and paste the address. In Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http fxlayer https://fxlayerhq.com/mcp

ChatGPT

Add it as a custom connector in developer mode, with the address above and no authentication. The search and fetch tools follow the shape ChatGPT's connectors and deep research expect, so FxLayer's guides can be searched and cited there.

Cursor, Windsurf and other clients

Most clients take a JSON entry:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "fxlayer": { "url": "https://fxlayerhq.com/mcp" }
  }
}

VS Code: {"servers": {"fxlayer": {"type": "http", "url": "https://fxlayerhq.com/mcp"}}}

Clients that only run local servers

Bridge it over stdio with the open-source mcp-remote package:

npx -y mcp-remote https://fxlayerhq.com/mcp

Or call it directly: every request is one JSON-RPC message in a POST, answered as JSON.

Tools

What the server answers

Every tool is read-only. Answers carry the address of the page they come from and the date the rule was last checked, so an assistant can cite them.

searchSearch FxLayer's guides and purpose codes

Search FxLayer's compliance guides and the RBI purpose-code reference with plain words (for example 'EDPMS entry not closed', 'Form 145 Part C', 'software export purpose code'). Returns ids for `fetch`.

Arguments: query

fetchRead a guide or a purpose-code page

The full text (Markdown) of a guide or a purpose-code page, by the id `search` returned (guide:<slug>, code:<code>) or by its address on fxlayerhq.com.

The guides and the purpose-code pages are also offered as MCP resources (Markdown), with a template for any code: https://fxlayerhq.com/purpose-codes/{code}.md.

Try it

One call from a terminal

curl -s https://fxlayerhq.com/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call",
       "params":{"name":"get_purpose_code","arguments":{"code":"P0802"}}}'

The answer is the code's record: its bank form, income-tax nature and Form 145 / 146 part, GST, reporting, cautions and the matching code for money going the other way.

Without MCP

The same content as open data

Purpose codes as JSON

/api/public/purpose-codes lists every code (?direction=inward|outward, ?q=plain words); /api/public/purpose-codes/{code} gives one with its reasoning.

Every guide and purpose-code page at its address plus .md, for example /insights/what-is-edpms.md or /purpose-codes/p0802.md.

llms.txt

/llms.txt maps the site for language models; /llms-full.txt has every guide and the purpose-code reference in one file.

Regulatory updates

/api/public/updates: each RBI, FEMA, income-tax and GST change FxLayer follows, with the date it takes effect and its source. The page is /updates.

Questions

Developers ask

Yes. It needs no account and no key. Each network address may make up to 180 calls a minute.
No. It answers only from FxLayer's public content: the guides, the purpose-code reference, the deadline rules and the published regulatory updates. It never reads or stores a workspace's data, and nothing you ask is kept beyond a count of which tool was called.
Which RBI purpose code fits a payment and what follows from it (Form A1 or A2, income-tax nature, Form 145 / 146, GST, reporting), when export proceeds must be realised, when a month's services EDF is due, what changed in the rules, and anything the guides explain, such as EDPMS, IDPMS, eBRC and Form 145 / 146.
It reads the same pages and rules the website and the FxLayer software use, so a change to a guide, a purpose code or a rule reaches the server with the same release. Every answer carries the date it was last checked and the address of its page.
The guides are written by chartered accountants, CA Prachi Goel and CA Abhay Jaiswal, and cite their primary sources: RBI notifications and circulars, the Income Tax Department and CBIC. It is general information, not advice; confirm a decision with your AD bank or chartered accountant.
